City Racketeers
ABQ-PAC

ABQPAC, was political action committee set up after the 2001 mayoral campaign that illegally funneled money to Mayor Martin Chávez for family travel expenses, to pay Chávez' wife’s cellular phone bills and to retire, up to 10 year old campaign debts.

ABQPAC, collected monitery contrubutions from political supporters, people doing business with the city and city employees.

Bribery of public officer or public employee is a is guilty of a third degree felony crime, but no prosecutor or the Attorney General, who had jurisdiction, would even look into, let alone, investigate the allegations of impropriety.

It took more than five years for the ethics board to finally resolve all the procedural steps in finding Chávez guilty of violations of the Albuquerque Board of Ethics ordinance.

The same evidence would have been sufficiant for a prosecutor to prosecute and a jury to have found beyond a reasonable doubt, convicting for bribery of public officer or public employee.

However, the District Attorney and Attorney General were fellow Democrats.

This chart shows the city employees who either made direct monitery contrubutions or provided direct support to the ABQPAC and the amounts of their contrubutions .
